Nº 05 — Behind the scenes

One studio, every step

Fittings, set, light and grade happen under one roof. Nothing is sent out, so a look stays the same from the rail to the print.

  1. 01

    Fitting & casting

We meet the clothes before the models: fit, fabric and how each piece moves.

  2. 02

    Styling on the rail

Looks are built and pinned the day before, so the shoot is only about light.

  3. 03

    The shoot

One photographer, one stylist, one set. Fewer people, quieter frames.

  4. 04

    Selects & grade

We edit hard and grade by hand, matched against the fabric swatches.

Nº 06 — Letters

From the labels

Model in an oversized black coat from the Noir Volume editorial
They understood that our clothes are about shape. The editorial made black look like the richest colour in the collection.
Céline ArdentFounder, Maison Ardent
Model in a linen dress beneath a stone arch, from the Stone & Linen lookbook
Two days of shooting gave us a year of images. Our stockists still ask for the stone-arch pictures.

How we run a brand workshop in one day

Most brand projects go wrong before the first sketch. Here is the one-day workshop we use to agree on what a brand should say, and the exercises we dropped along the way.

Why we choose materials before we draw

On most of our houses, the first decision is not the plan but a stone, a timber or a concrete mix. A note on working from the material outwards, and what it changes on site.

Shooting a lookbook on location
